Apple Pie
Ingredients
6 C
tart apples
1 C
sugar (Alternate is ¾C white + ¼C brown)
2 T
all-purpose flour
1 t
cinnamon
dash
nutmeg
1/2 t
lemon juice (optional)
butter
Preparation
Mix apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg together
Add lemon juice if apples are not tart.
Pour into
Grandma Marlene's Pie Crust
Add slices of butter to the top of the apples
Add more of
Grandma Marlene's Pie Crust
to the top of the pie.
Cut pretty design into top of pie crust.
Brush top of pie crust with egg white and water mixture
Mix cinnamon bakers sugar together then sprinkle on top of pie crust.
Sprinkle a little RAW sugar (crystals) on the top.
Bake
450 degrees for 10 minutes
and then turn the oven down to
350 degrees for 45
to 55 minutes.
Notes:
I add a pizza stone to the oven to stabilize the heat at 350.
Mom suggest adding a little flour and sugar to bottom of pie crust... before adding apples to absorve liquid.
Refrigerate crust while preparing filling
Don't over fill pie with apples. Stick to recipe - 6
Marlene taught me to use Granny Smith apples. They are delecious but soft and may not be firm after cooking.
